Endive is a leafy green that is similar to lettuce, but with a slightly thicker leaf.
Petlita is a German variety that takes the usual autumn harvest season and extends it backwards into summer. That's right -- you can sow this Endive from March through August, and harvest it from June through November! It gives you an entire second season of delectable eating.
The secret to Perlita's success is bolt resistance. It will set heads no matter what the weather does, so you no longer have to wait for the cooler fall weather to enjoy top-quality, Batavian-style heads that self-blanch, remain tight even in heat, and offer flavorful broad-leafed foliage. The hearts are soft yellow-green, perfect for that tender bite, while the exterior leaves are richly flavored and full of succulent texture.
Perlita is very uniform as well. Harvest it when the heads reach about 5 to 6 inches high.
